Email is one of the best ways we have now to connect with our friends and associates.  It is ubiquitous.  But how can we stand out?

  • Just as any good blog article it has to have a "catchy" title.  So make your subject line make a difference.   The subject has to be shorter than a twitter comment but pithy enough to be remembered.
  • There is no substitute for providing something of value.  Let me know in the title what it is you are going to say
  • And my biggest secret for branding is to make sure that your name which is sent along with the email is readable.  Some tricks that I have seen is to make your name all caps as JEFFREY BLAKE - so that it stands out from the usual mixed case.
  • Another way to have your name stand out is to place spaces between the letters as J E F F R E Y   B L A K E - which would be a simple start.
  • But I like some mind share and I have been toying with adding my brand along with my name in the email.
  • As  Jeffrey Blake :: S o c i a l M e d i a E v a n g e l i s t - So you get my name but also I remind you of what I am.
  • I also like to use email aliases heavily when leaving an email address.  I am able to wildcard what comes into my domain so that I redirect any email to a single email account.   So if you sent an email to blogger@jeffreyblake.com it would go to me.   When applying for a job I will often use the job title as the name part of the email address.  In this way I reinforce my interest.
